Well, today’s the day - it’s the Fourth of July! And we all know what that means: BBQ, patriotism, and blowing stuff up! I can’t think of a better holiday. Before getting too excited by the fireworks, food, and fun, one must remember the true meaning of this day. Two hundred and thirty years ago, our forefathers gathered at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to sign the most important document in all of history. Putting their lives and sacred honor on the line, these daring dreamers risked everything to start a revolution against the atrocities of a tyrannical king. It was this beautiful act that jumpstarted a great cascade of events - The United States of American was born.
Here’s to another 230, America. Here’s to times of thick and thin, war and peace, prosperity and depression. Here’s to the men and women who have given it all to create and protect you. Here’s to the leaders, both admired and admonished, who have tried to maintain your ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice for all. Here’s to your citizens whose families have been here for centuries, and those who continue to arrive on your glistening shores. Here’s to the bright light of freedom and democracy that continues to shine and spread the world over thanks to your dedication, honor, and virtue. Here’s to the chests that swell when your anthem is played, the lone tear in a veteran’s eye, the unfaltering patriotism that flows through your veins. Here’s to that extra spring in your step, your love for God and country, and the pure beauty that is your flag. You truly are the greatest nation, the greatest dynasty, that this world has ever known and will ever see. In the words of John Winthrop, you truly are the ‘city upon a hill’ which ‘the eyes of all people are upon’. Such you always have been and always will be. America, my heart and passion lie with you - today, tomorrow, and forever!
May God bless America!
